Let’s Help Repair the church and rebuild the island of Camiguin, Philippines

If you’ve known me for any length of time or have read my book then you know I was a missionary with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in the Philippines for nearly 5 years. I served at the YWAM base in Aparri located on the very northern coast. My mission was an outreach to Camiguin Island in the Babuyan Islands, just off the Aparri coast. When I left the Philippines to return to the United States in the summer of 2001, we had planted the first and only Protestant Church on the island but the church building had not yet been built. Over the next several years, I sent them money when I could to help fund it’s construction. Over the last 25 years, the church building has been in operation.

Recently a super typhoon (like a hurricane) tore through the Islands in the Northern Philippines, hitting them directly. The church building is located on the northwest side of the island, right near the ocean. See the photo of the storm (Camiguin Island is circled) and photos and videos of the damaged building below.

Would you prayerfully consider contributing to the repairs of the building? They are estimating it will cost $1200 to complete the repairs. This is not a huge amount in the United States but in the Philippines, it is an overwhelming amount, especially for poor rice farmers and fishermen.

Here is how to contribute to the church repairs:

  1. For a tax deductible receipt, send a check made payable to Youth With A Mission, PO Box 3000, Garden Valley, TX 75771-3000. DO NOT WRITE ON THE MEMO LINE. Add in a separate note stating the money is for “YWAM Aparri Philippines.” If you don’t include a note they will assume the money is for the Garden Valley base and they will use it there for their purposes. If you write on the memo line of the check, it will not qualify for a tax receipt so you must add in a separate note.

  2. If you don’t care about a tax deductible receipt or want to make a non tax deductible electronic payment, you can donate below.

Any money raised beyond the $1200 will go to help with general relief efforts on the island.
